I came off at Swinley last week on the first downhill bit on red section 1, and my ribs have been hurting ever since. Somehow I landed pretty much directly on my chest. I got up and carried on, so didn't feel particularly serious, but it was hurting the next day, and it's not got any better since. I thought I'd shake it off in a week. I've cycled to work a couple of times this week and I've come to the conclusion that I shouldn't do that again until I'm mended.
Anyone else hurt themselves similarly? How long did it take you to recover? Will I be able to ride the Bucks off-road sportive next weekend? I'll be gutted if I don't feel up to that.
Takes about a month or so to recover. I wouldnt let it stop me riding an off-road sportive. Might take it a bit cannier though.
bruised ribs here, 3 weeks on and lying in bed still kills me during night but can now do normal tasks without stopping midway and screeching etc
One day around four years ago I broke some ribs after falling off my bike (I break lots of ribs). Around a month after this happened I was sitting in a room with my back to the door - someone thought it would be a good idea to give me a jab in the ribs - I hit the roof and was almost crying with pain.
A couple of months ago - they were sitting in a room with their back to the door. I got my revenge. ๐
Not sure they're broken as when I have done mine walking was a struggle and sometimes breathing optional, for a good few weeks and the bike was out of the question. If you are at all struggling wit breathing or painful breathing makke sure you get a good few deep breaths in despite the pain to avoid chest infections. If you have managed to ride thats good, at least the pain is tolerable. A good 4-6 weeks for broken. adly bruised I would guess 2-3 weeks. I guess it also depends how badly busted they are if they were broken as well.
Rest is the only thing.
Bruised ribs 2 weeks to heal (ish)
Broken ribs 6 weeks
Unless you do what I did and give yourself a haemothorax, not an experience is want to repeat! !!
I first injured mine in February - apparently bruised not broken. Hit in much the same place on Good Friday. Strained them again a week ago moving some heavy boxes containing a trampoline. Putting the trampoline together didn't help. They're still painful now. I've now stopped doing anything again in the hope they might get better with some rest and I'm missing my medication ๐
Gah. Sleeping is painful, driving/changing gear is painful, pootling on the commuter is painful. Even bloody laughing is painful!
Guess I need to rest up. And the weather's been so good! At least I didn't break my collarbone ๐
I found sleeping in an armchair helped, avoiding that turning over and waking in agony experience.
Had something similar after a comedy low speed fall on my road bike. It didn't hurt much at the time, but was very painful later that evening. For the next 3 weeks, coughing or sneezing was pure agony, and I was slapping on nurofen gel most days. I'm a month on now and it's finally subsided to a dull ache.
Bruised ribs and sternum here also. Just about feeling ok during the day 1 month later but still hurts at night.
Cheers

I've broke and popped a few in my time playing rugby, all I would do is rest
Beer is helping ๐
I've gone OTB before and bruised ribs, it took over a month to heal, I would go to A&E to get checked just in case, especially if it's hurting your breathing
just getting over that atm......
done it 5 weeks ago 1st 2 weeks i was on painkillers and ibruprofin..... after 2 weeks i could manage without them but getting up in the morning or going to bed was killer!!! any sort of sudden movments or bending over was painfull.
after 4 weeks i managed to start getting back to exercise but still felt discomfort.... even now 5 weeks on the pain is still there very lightly if i move the wrong way
hope you heal soon!
