yep love brechfa, choice of 4 different graded trails. even the green is fast and like a mini roller coster in sections.

Brechfa is a hoot. I only did the Red (due to being ill on the next morning). If it were more busy they would not have got away with building it so steep, but you'll be glad they did. Lots of fast roller-coastery stuff.

I can't really figure what's not to like really - the setting is lovely too.

Slight post Hi-jack. Can anyone recommend some accommodation in the area - a group of us are hoping to head down there in the autumn.

Rich - that October weekend looks like it could be on ๐Ÿ™‚

Blue - it's easy and ace, brakes off, just avoid squashing beginners or flying off the track
Red - 1st half is dull, second half is ace - steeper and bermtastic, esp. the final bit
Black - quite daft, brilliant and rubbish in equal measure. My favourite bits were the unexpected "wall-ride" near the start and the really tight sections near the join with the red trail. I need to get better before I can really enjoy the jumpy stuff.

I'd go and explore round the Ellan Valley myself.

Loads of great trail and very close to Aber.

Brechfa's enjoyable enough but I'm with Stu here. Get yourself an OS Explorer 200 (and possibly 213) and go explore ... adventures await ๐Ÿ˜€

been to the elan valley area on a few occassions, doing polaris/real ale wobble and stuff.
and i am sneaking of for a day while mrs t and the daughter go horse riding, so a trail center blast will have to suffice.
staying just up the road from nant tho, so will get a couple of laps in over the week, and the climax too........... 8)

Just to add the counter-argument: I couldn't get on with it. Fast, yes, but the hard-pack surface just didn't do it for me. Too smooth, and no grip. Didn't get the juices flowing in the same way that the rocky bits of Afan do.

That's just a personal preference though. I might have enjoyed it on a different bike.

If you were in the ellan valley on the wobble you were either very lost or very drunk.

Or both. ๐Ÿ˜†

Stu, sort your typing finger out ... only 1 L ๐Ÿ˜‰

You know how we English/Welsh half breeds get.

Yeah, I'm a Brechfa fan. I think you could bore of it easily but for occasional 'stay off the brakes as long as you dare' high speed fun, it's hard to beat.

Red and Black have a waymarked connector so you can do an Afan style W2 figure of 8. It's only about 40km but it's a lot of climbing but a rewarding ride. Then nip round the blue ๐Ÿ™‚

I've stayed at GilfachWen lots and is a really nice bunk house (though its a lot nicer than your average bunkhouse). Huge Kitchen with several cookers and hobs. Bike wash and at the time we stored our bikes in the big drying room though I think Jilly the owner was building a dedicated bike store. About 10 mins drive to the Abergorlech trails. Table footie, washing machine. Bunk beds but the bottom bed is a double bed in some rooms. good showers. its been 18 months since i last stayed though.

Foxy, I went with one snoring mutha ****a!! Each time I went we were the only people there and I simply put myself in one of the other rooms. There must be at lease 6 bedrooms with bunks in each.

Great trails, plus Drop-off cafe bus at the Byrgwm car park.
