After smashing my shoulder a few months back I finally got out on the bike again and the brakes are pants! Lots of squeal and no power at all both front and back. Have been spot on up til now but never had quite as long a break not being ridden. It was dry the last time I was out.
When I wet them they perform better but still squeal like a pig.
Bike is stored inside so the only thing it will come in contact with is dust.
Any tips to save them or will I need new pads and or discs?
Just standard Shimano M-506's
New calipers. Clean the disks, bin the pads and then you'll be right.
Calipers are working ok. I’ll try a new set of pads, heard about putting them in the oven to bake off any contamination but not sure
No, I mean it's likely your caliper seals have failed and a fine spray of oil is contaminating your pads. They are not replaceable so a new caliper is needed.
But someone one here did experiment with alternative seals. I can't remember the outcome. Anyway imo, the relatively cheap cost of shimanos is offset a bit by the cost of at least one set of calipers needing replacement during the life of the brake.
Try one set of new or baked pads, and if they are good for a bit, then the problem comes back, then it's the calipers.

More likely that your pads have glazed over. Very light sandpaper on the pads, 200 / 300 weight, to just take the shine off. Then bed them in.
Probably be fine after that.

How are the pads going to glaze when the bike hasn't been ridden? Something is contaminating the pads.
