I'll be staying near Dunbar (in Cockburnspath) for a few days next week.
Can anyone please recommend me a good road cycling route?
I'm thinking 50-80 miles ish but any suggestions welcome, especially if you have a Strava/GPX link please.
Thank you ๐
Route Spott, Garvald, Whiteadder, Gifford, Haddington, Aberlady, North Berwick & back bis Dunbar. You could extend down to Duns if you wanted.
EDIT that was from Dunbar itself. Maybe just route straight over to Duns from Cockburnspath missing out Spott & Garvald then as above
Thanks for that - presumably not along the A1 to Gifford ๐ ?
If you go to Duns , then its over the Rig to Gifford. Quiet roads, big climb.
Hi Finbar, I live in Dunbar so I know the roads well. I'd offer to come out for a day trip with you but I'm under doctor's orders at the moment.
There's only one flat way out of Co'path - north to Dunbar so I'm going to assume you like hills.
I suggest climbing south west up Ecclaw hill then heading to Abbey St Bathans. (The first road to A.S.B. is litttle more than a tarmac farm track but is very sceneic. The second one is also good.
Continue to the B6355 and turn north to climb over by whiteadder reservoir and redstone rigg, then on to Gifford.
Continue on B6355 for a mile or two then head to Haddington on the B6368. Turn east on NC 76 all the way back to Co'path via East Linton and Dunbar. Don't worry, this avoids the A1
There are two nice cafes in Gifford, one run by/for cyclists and refreshments can be had in Haddington, East Linton and Dunbar.

Yeah, love a good climb - although I only live in the Peak District so I'll see how I fair on proper Scottish hills.
Thanks for the tips both, I'll plot something on Komoot.
Hope you're allowed out again on the bike soon Donald ๐
