[#3695958]

My bike (Yeti ASR-SL with reba race) currently has standard Shimano XT QR hubs.

I'm looking to upgrade the wheels and thinking about going for one of the bolt on systems to improve stiffness.

I don't want to add any weight though really.

Can anyone give a run through of the systems out there to fit my frame and forks?

The last time I had bolt on wheels was on my Raleigh Mustang when I was 11.

Am I looking for MAXLE? That appears to be a big QR.

Can you get these for the rear?

You need an appropriate frame and fork for any of the bolt through systems.

If you went for DT, Specialized/Roval or Hope hubs (sure there are others) you can use their 9mm QR, but you can't fit Maxle/Maxle-Lite/QR15 etc etc without changing your forks, nor 142mm rear without changing your frame.

You can get 9mm hubs, and you can fit 9mm axles to standard QR frame/forks. They're not bolt through but might improve stiffness

What njee20 said. You could try the DTSwiss ratchet QR skewers, which allow a theoretically higher clamp force to be exerted. But they're fragile and expensive, and I don't think you'd really notice the difference (except in your wallet).

Thanks njee20, seems there's no true bolt through system for standard frames.

How about these then?

They seem to be able to run a 9mm big QR up front and a 10mm big QR in the rear - will those fit my frame and forks?

I know they aren't bolt through as I asked for! but its the kind of thing I was thinking off to stiffen things up a little. will i notice ANY difference!?!

I'll have to weigh my current wheels (XT on x317) to see if there's any weight difference.

you can run a 10mm bolt up axle in most qr dropouts, that'll stiffen up the rear. at the front-end, just buy a decent fork.

If you're buying "a decent fork" you may as well get a Maxle/QR15 one 🙄

Yes, and I would expect so.

I don't think you can add bolt-through axles to either the front or rear hubs so you're looking at a new fork and wheelset really.

Reba or Sid with maxle lite (and preferably Blackbox damping) would be what I would go for.

Hope Hoops with Stans CRest rims for the wheels.

£270ish for the wheels, £400-500 for the fork if you shop around. Maybe it's new bike time?
