What are peoples thoughts on this bike. I have a hardtail and im wanting to try some road cycling as per a million other topics I made. Now im thinking its a good middle ground between my mountsin bike and a full on race style bike. My idea is to do some road cycling but if I encounter some rough back lanes crack on down them.

now my hardtail is great off road but a right slog on the road. So thinking cx bike.

I've got last years model and it gets used more than the mtb now. It also gets used loads on the road and is much faster than the road bike it replaced.

It rides much more expensive than its price if that makes sense.

However I'm sure there was a thread on here about the new current year ones either having faulty paint work, or cracks. I assume this would be resolved by now

First batch had an isdu with the frame cracking - think its been sorted out now.

I had the same dilemma before Christmas, and eventually went for a 'propper' road bike - I have a hardtail already and just couldn't justify spening the money on a half way house.

i've got one. More than happy with it but it turned out to be a bit of a project for me. There were a few issues that needed resolving to make it up to my 'standards'. First the Lyra brakes are terrible and the lever throw is too much for me even with the calipers rubbing a bit so, i replaced them with BB5's which are worlds apart. The brake cables are cheapo ones which have too much flex in them for cable discs and the chain was a cheap on which rusted no matter what lube i put on.
The rear freehub died after 1000 muddy miles so i have re-built the rear wheel onto a hope XC.
It rides very well, very fast off road and overall for the money i'm happy.

I think my goal is I want something I can go exploring on. Strap a tent on etc. And if I encounter some rough bits. But the hardtail is slow on road. And if this winters owt to go by where the trails are awful I cs still ride on the gravel bridleways and road.

That was just on the Teams, the Comp is unaffected.

Also, it was the paint, not the frames cracking.

My brother got one a few weeks back on C2W. He was looking at a Dolan around the same price, but for the money you cannot beat them. Nice colour scheme, good kit and polished welds (apart from around the lower seat stay/down tube area) He's fitted guards and Panniers and its great. The Lyras seem ok. We had to fiddle with the Calipers a bit but seem ok now (can only compare to BB5 from my old Day One).

polished welds

pedantic note: it's filler over normal welds

My choice was this or Triban 5 which is obviously pure road bike.

As I mentioned in another thread, Halfords are doing £60 off a £600 spend, if that makes a difference.

I have a CX bike. It's my only bike. If, like you, I also had a hardtail, I think I would err on the side of getting a proper road bike.

I did have a CX bike and HT and am now selling the CX in favour of a roadie.

But if you're a medium then maybe drop me a line as I'm selling a CX Team and I think I'm local to you (going by a previous post).

Not sure on my size for road/cx I'm a medium in mountain bikes. I'm 5ft 10 and long legged. In Darwen.

You're probably a medium in the Boardman as they're not short in the top tube.

My email's in my profile if you are interested, I'm about 20 mins away.
