short but steep from Littleborough, or long and steady through Cragg Vale - depends what you find hardest ? (Cragg-Vale is longest so there is scope for more suffering if you want to keep pushing yourself...or you can take it nice and steady and not trouble yoursef too much)

It's a lot easier to hammer on the pedals and blow up going up Cragg Vale than doing the same from Littleborough.

just thinking about this and remembered once coming up from Cragg Vale, straight into a headwind and rain....once I got onto the open moorland I was so gone that I was looking down at the ditch to the left of the road and thinking how atractive a place it would be to just roll into and fall asleep (for ever!)

I'd rather go up Cragg vale I think, longer but steadier, and there's less cars going up that way too.

Cragg Vale also holds the 'longest continual gradient in England' title too, so it's gotta be worth pub bragging points to ride up that way too.

Cragg Vale on my SS Roadrat was fun. Not quite as fun as the descent from the top into Ripponden though.
