Seems a small bit of thick foil in a MSR box costs £15.
There must be a cheaper alternative?

Yes there is: foil box that disposable BBQ comes in or three layers of kitchen foil or an adapted takeaway box.
Not exactly difficult to work out though is it?
I wondered if folding enough tin foil might work.

alu foil wrapped a few times round a couple of spare tent pegs?
I generally just use a bit of camping stuff that I'm not using - fold up frisbee, bag, rock, etc...
