Got my first trip abroad with the bike coming up this summer, looking on easyjets website it says you cant put other bits in with the bike? Im sure ive read on here before that people put their clothes/camelbaks etc in with the bike? Do they actually check/care? Seems to start getting expensive once you add a bag for the hold as well as a bike bag. A pain in the arse to get across airports with all the bags too. Also are there any insurance companies who cover your bike for being lost/broken in transit?

Carry on + bike bag stuffed with lighter stuff especially wrapped around frame. No bother at Gatwick or Toulouse last year. Make sure doesn't go over 32kg. Guess having a plan B in case you get a check in Nazi. I've flown with bike 3 or 4 times and haven't had an issue yet.

My bag was stuffed with kit and no questions asked. Had my evoc rucksack as carry on with my helmet strapped to the back and no complaints with that either.

Flown six times with easyjet with tools, shoes, clothing etc in with the bike and never had a problem. However, me and a friend both doublechecked our bags to be 31kg before a flight and easyjet managed to weigh them at over 32kg so I'd give yourself a couple of kg so you're not panicking in the airport.

I packed stuff in with my bike no problems at all with easy jet. One tip, if it's a cardboard box, take extra duck tape etc just in case easy jet do decide to open it

And you can be safe in the knowledge that this is probably happening to your bike haha

Flew a few years ago to Spain. Arrived and unpacked bikes and my mates large chainring was bent at right angles so god knows what had happened.

On the way back, not really easy jets fault, the security at malaria airport didn't give me chance to fold the bike bag straps up, put it through the scanner and the straps jammed, they just sliced through them with a knife. Leaving me with a bag with no straps. No time to argue.

Thats good then, sounds like i can stash a few bits in with the bike. Any insurance that covers damage/loss during transit?

I've flown a few times with SPD boots, full & open face helmet, spare rear brake, etc in an Evoc bike bag - I use some releasable cable tie to hold a few pairs of my riding shorts around the top & seat tubes.
I've also had it show 34.3kg on the check in but she just winked & wrote down 32kg 8)

Most times you end up going to outsized baggage which is a standard desk for all the airlines- so the dude on the desk has no motivation to find fault, unlike a front desk person who works for the airline.

Don't put all your bike kit in though, there's always a chance your bike won't arrive at the same time as you do and if you end up on a hire bike for a day or two you want riding kit.

Two things about that... One is that the airside baggage handling is airport staff not easyjet. And the other is that it's really not very rough handling. if you don't pack your bike so it can withstand far more than that, you're an idiot frankly.

MC told me "pack it like it's going to be thrown down the stairs". I've raised that to "pack it like I plan to throw it out the bedroom window" ๐Ÿ˜† my bag's absolutely hammered- it used to have hard plastic corners and rails, they all got destroyed completely- but the bike arrives fine. it's mostly the big cardboard bike box inside the bag that's doing the work...

Yeah I just watched that clip & can't see what the fuss is about. It's your expensive bike going in bag on a plane - pack accordingly. In answer to the OP - yes just use the space for kit up to the weight allowance, they don't check and make sure as said ^^^ that you don't put everything you need in one bag. Common sense innit!

Yep fine to put stuff in - I did last weekend on EZY and am in preparation for tomorrow's EZY flight to Mallorca ๐Ÿ™‚

Gatwick N (where I'm flying from both times) is self service for bag tagging so there is not even anyone there is question your packing.

Do you just look at your bike or actually ride it?
All you tightarses that try and squeeze minimal riding gear into your bikebag instead of paying 20 odd quid for a hold bag can I just say that no one wants to ride with you towards the end of the week because you stink you smelly bastards. ๐Ÿ˜ก

Yep and some riders even got to wear different gear while on the bike and out on a night...

I fly quite regularly with my bike on Easyjet.
Never had a problem with my tools, shoes & some clothing in the bag, they've never asked.
If you are flying from the new Gatwick North terminal, then the 3 times I've used it they haven't even weighed the bag.
Its all automated & the bike bags don't fit on the scale, so the attendant just printed me a label that said 31.9kg & off i trot to oversize baggage.
The one time it was overweight at Basel airport, I removed some items, walked it around the corner to oversize baggage & put the stuff back in!
They all seem to be more obsessed with you having let the air out of the tyres, for some inexplicable reason...

Never had any issues with clothing, shoes, helmet, tools etc in there.

The box I have actually requires the tyres to be deflated to fit them in the recess. Plenty of space in and around the bike to wedge clothing and nothing has ever been damaged. Spend a bit of time packing it carefully and you should be fine.

I've always found Easyjet to be surprisingly cool and quite generous with their sports equipment allowance, both bikes and snowboards. No problems with that video either. I clicked through expecting to see the bags being launched out of the hold and freefalling onto the tarmac.

What has the video got to do with Easy Jet? I am using them again in July to Geneva with me bike and have no issues with them. I would be more worried the bike doesn't turn up, but again that will be down to baggage handlers not them.

That's actually not correct, Easy Jet employ the handling agents, the airports have nothing to do with who they employ.

snow card and dog tag are good for bike cover.

I've never had problems putting things in the bag but I've never filled it. Plenty of packaging in there so a few extra fabric items won't matter. Equally all the bits I take off like pedals go in so a saddle bag with tools isn't a problem.

You can get a fair bit in easy jet hand luggage allowance too so normally ok to do it just with a bike if not stupidly heavy and you are going somewhere sunny.
