[#2903707]

I'm the proud owner of a Citroen C4, which for some unknown reason has glass rear windscreen right to the edge of the boot. Which obviously precludes me from fitting a rear rack as the catches cant be fitted on their normal points.

However, I think i've got a solution to this, so thought I'd throw the rack on board to see if its actually going to fit...

But that got me thinking I might need a lighting board since the wheels will partially obstruct the light cluster...

So...

Apart from strap positions, does anyone see any real problems with either of those mountings? I know the first option is a bit high and obstructs the lights, but the second one seems like a go-er... Even if it requires some muscle to get the bikes on it..

I'd sell it and get a roof rack and bike carrier, it doesn't look safe

I think you can buy dumbell strap ends that slip into the boot and stop the straps pulling through and dont rely on the hooks beeing over the glass, might be the easiest option.

I was thinking something along those lines, but the fabric straps would still be touching the glass. I can't guarantee the amount of pressure they put on the glass in this case.

However, the straps are not the issue, I can mount them in all sorts of places. The issue is now whether the rack is safe in either of the mounting positions

Can't you just put it inside the car??

The panel next to you window that says vtr is plastic, it just clips on and it is common for them to fall off under normal conditions. I worked for citroen for years and would not recommend using the rack as it is fitted. Roof bars are not to expensive or best of all take the wheels off and put it in the boot.
