Recently bought a santa cruz heckler and would really like to put a real nice pair of grips on it, if this makes any difference to choise i do a lot of freeride/xc
What grips can you recommend?

Renthal is nice (non-lock for me) but maybe a little small- I get on with them fine on most of my bikes but they kill my hands on the rigid.

I hate it when folk sit on the fence like that. Spesh enduro non lockon for me, but as with all contact points, it's personal preference

I am using ESI grips on most bikes now... Very comfy and damned light.

ODI lock-ons on my three bikes with suss-forks, Ritchey foam lock-ons on the one with rigid forks.
I would never use anything other than lock-ons of some sort. Foam really helps with rigid forks (Ritcheys are new so can't vouch for longevity yet, ODIs last well)

+1 on the sunline comments, mine wore through in no time and the collar became uncomfortable.
I really like foam grips. I know I'm a minority in that oppinion, but they're comfy, grippy enough that hands don't slip (they do tend to migrate in allong the bars a few mm each ride though, but easy to pull back).
Only problem was the Ritchey WCS bar plugs were crap so I got some huge plastic BMX ones that stay put perfectly.
