Get a basic Garmin etrex or simelar. No cables or sensors, can be used for different bikes and you can upload/download routes to it.

Can be had for less than £50 on eBay

ETA;

like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/garmin-etrex-hand-held-gps-/300513799380?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_GPSSystems_GPSSystems&hash=item45f804acd4

(auction nothing to do with me - just an example)

Cateye Strada wireless. Dead easy to use (no small fiddly buttons while you're riding), easy to fit (no wires) and cheap (try Ebay).

i've got a cateye endura - does all you want and under £20. personally i'm not convinced by wireless, but only cos my mate had that and it stopped working if a brake or gear cable got in the way.

+1 for cateye Endura. In 1 year, I have been through 3 computers, 2 wireless expensive ones (both Sigma, signal stopped working), a wired cheap Aldi comp (buttons stopped working, then screen faded even with new bat) and now on the Cateye wired. I've given up with wireless.. heres hoping it will actually last sometime, but my mates is a number of years old.
