My Wife occasionally works in Wells and asked me today whether I knew that the Bike City shop was empty; I didn't.

Their listing on Google says "Permanently Closed" and their website is down. We can hope that, as before, they resurface Phoenix like under new owners but I wonder whether they're another victim of the declining cycling market and are gone for good.

Anyone know anything about what's happened?

They've been around for decades under various owners and popping up in various locations around Wells. I bought my first proper bike, a Dawes Chilliwack, off them years ago (after getting back into cycling on a mild steel £75 BSO of a monstrosity).

I've used them intermittently every since (whilst realising that I've tended to buy cheaply online and fit myself). As a non-driver I don't know where I'd be going to now when my rather minimal mechanic's skills fail me and I need a proper one.

It's a shame.

-- Edit (if/when it updates) --

Their Facebook page is also saying "Permanently Closed" but no reason given.

They closed about two weeks ago. I went in five years ago when I moved to Wells and friendly was not a word I'd use to desribe them. Use Mint Cycles in Priddy now.

Thanks, I cycle through Priddy weekly and had no idea that Mint Cycles were there. I must have an explore!

Do they have a proper website? I've found a Facebook page but it'll only allow me a quick glimpse before insisting that I sign up.

@Pjay no website, it's just servicing , Rich had had enough of the retail side of the bike industry which is understandable. As you head up the hill away from Priddy Green you pass the campsite then Mint is the last building on the left before you get to the T Junction, there's also a cafe in the yard 👍

I can also highly recommend Mint. Dave put together my first MTB in Wells about 25years ago and has built me a few since then too. Loads of great riding round there as well.
