any suggestions for someone about to embark on building a ss.
velosolo ones are around £16 but ali, onone steel around £25 whats the durability of them and best VFM..?
also want/need rear 16t cog and spacers..?

cheers all..

oh need chaintugs also..recommendations welcome

steel for chainrings. will outlast alloy by enough to make the price worthwhile. (although Boone make some utterly sexy Ti ones)
sprockets - surly steel are the ones IMO. Spacers out of an old cassette.
Just one on-one chaintug on the drive side.

surly chainrings. i've been running one for 3 years. i've only just reversed it because i've worn out one WI freewheel - broke a tooth, other teeth very 'hooked', shot pawls, and bearing knackered. not worth rebuilding this with all that damage so just replaced it complete. bike probably does somewhere in the region of 50km a week with around 1500m rise and fall, but sometimes much more that that, so that ring has had plenty of use!
bought from charlie the bike monger. he's a good lad.

Can you not get all the parts for the WI or is the "carrier" fugged too
