[#5939506]

I've got a day owed on Friday and plan to head of for a day's riding. First time to Wales, I'm an XC sort of rider and not very confident on wet/loose rock or massive exposure(maybe I should just head to Swinley again!) Any suggestions of where I can pop my welsh mtb cherry? I had thought Skyline but gather that's closed/ruined. Whytes? (which I think was in a recent issue of STW?)

I would go to the Afan centre and ride the Blue Scar and then Penhydd. Did it last Friday an had a great time. The only section to watch is one of the last on Penhydd which has a couple of rock steps.

Is the new blade trail opening on Friday at Afan? I'd do that

Depends on which part of Wales, surely? If you're heading further North I'd suggest Llandegla if you're trying to avoid too much exposure or wet rock.

Not sure I can recommend it as a good trail to start on - but first welsh trail was W2 at afan, it was quite a challenge and I definitely felt like I was thrown in at the deep end, but it was great fun and quite varied with bermy bits, rocky bits and (sadly) a few muddy bits!

OK, in true STW style, a curve ball - Have you considered FoD? Great fun, nice natural feeling loop with plenty of playground thrown in for good measure!

If you were a fellow Gog, I'd have said Marin...

How muddy would FOD be?

I prefer longer routes hence Skyline...

Longer routes, you say?

Well in that case, head on over to Brechfa (Assuming there's nothing closed at the moment) and do the whole lot in a day. Awesome riding.
