Newly built up Meta 5.5, running SLX double and bash up front, medium cage 10 speed rear mech at the back. No iscg mounts. When I sized the chain I let the air out of the shock, compressed the suspension and went big to big plus a link. If I change to small to small the chain just hangs slack. Could the chain be too long? Going downhill I'm always in the big ring but still drop the chain on occasions. Unfortunately I'm a fat b*****d and still need the granny to get back up again. Would a clutch mech be enough?

might be, a BB mounted chain device would be great though. Something like the blackspire stinger

This is pretty normal when running a double on a 10speed cassette with a 36t cog.
You should never be in the small cog on the back and the granny ring at the same time so it shouldn't matter.
