Hello,

Anyone know some good technical trails around the Keswick area?

I'm heading down there for a weeks family holiday from Sept 7th and hope to get out for a couple of rides.

Thanks in advance
Cris

Pop into Keswick Mountain Bikes or Lakeland Pedlar (owned by the same people, LP is a bit more roadie, KMB is the MTB one) and buy either the Vertebrate Grpahics Lake District Guide Book or the laminated maps that they sell for a couple of pounds.

Borrowdale Bash and Skiddaw Loop (aka Skiddaw Round) are the two really popular ones both starting from Keswick and easy to navigate.
Whinlatter Forest nearby has the trail centre.

Borrowdale Bash initially doesn't look like much, it's about 18 miles with only about 7 miles off road but it has 2 VERY technical descents and a couple of lung busting climbs! Probably one of my all time favourite routes that one.

Thanks all,

Those suggestions look great, esp the skiddaw-ullock route.

I dont think I'd be able to make a 6.30 session but thanks for the offer Claire.

Will post any pics / stories here when I get back.

Cheers,
Cris

We also leave the pedlar Sat or Sun afternoon, usually around 2.30 cause Mark owns a BnB, again for some techy fun.... ๐Ÿ˜‰

2 VERY technical descents

You're not wrong, last time I did it I managed to crash and mangle myself on both the descents!

Made it back having managed to fit in Whinlatter and Skiddaw. Great to have been to top of Skiddaw and what amazing views but the downhill isnt worth the long push up imo. Fast but not that technical.

Whinlatter Forest
Awesome. The north and south reds are heaps of fun, esp the north red downhill which you can take full pelt. Up there with Glentress and Kirroughtree.

Thanks for all the advice. Would love to ride other places in Lakes now.

Cheers,
Cris
