I'm looking to get a GPS for use whilst on the bike, the Garmin Etrex H looks good to me as I'd also be able to use it for walking. What would the STW massive recommend. I'd ideally like to keep it below the £150 mark. Not bothered about electronic mapping as I know how to use a proper foldy one 🙂

For basic navigation - following routes or tracks, the etrex H is hard to beat.
Make sure you get a suitable USB/Serial converter if your computer doesn't have com ports.

This looks like a decent deal to me:

Go for the etrex h, it's great. If you get memory map or similar, you can stick the routes in easily and follow them on the etrex (handy bar mound is available to £12). But don't leave that map at home!

What MTB (I know, I know) basically said the etrx H was the best bet as it was one of few that actually displayed OS coords (a fairly basic function I reckon!)

All the others they tested were fancy, but all had their problems.

Remember to take a map!

What about smartphone? I have windows 6 and a built in GPS which works fine with Garmin Mobile XT for the road. tried memory map demo and it didnt work too well. Anything else available.? I did see a free app where you could calibrate google maps images and overlay tracks on top to follow; looked quite cool but alas that didnt work either!

I have an etrex legend and got it for about £70 from the states via evil bay last year. It's mapping is basic but handy and the co-ords are proper handy.
