I've been itching to try a 29er for months and i've finally found a bit of cash to pick up a 2nd hand frame. I'm really stuck on what to get and how to spec up the bike. At the moment I'm thinking of going 1x10 but unsure if I should go fully rigid or 80-100mm up front, What do you guys think?

If I were you I would try and find a SH Inbred or Scandal and put a cheap rigid fork on the front you will be impressed then you can upgrade later to a suspension fork.

Have you thought about something like a Banshee Paradox.
Short chainstays and built to take a 120mm fork.

Great fun and I might just have one for sale in the next day or two. ๐Ÿ˜‰
