Fitting new forks (alloy steerer) and was thinking of using a Hope Head doctor or similar

Obviously a star nut is an option still but like the idea of fitting at home and re-using

I am a Hope Head doctor convert, very easy to use.

Personnally you are seemingly making a mountain out of a mole hill, why can't you fit a star fangled nut @ home?
Long bolt and bit of patience with a hammer will have it in, in no time & considering what they cost (£2?) is having a re-usable hope head doctor really essential? (not that I have an issue with Hope HD's)

Hey ho, if you want to do it, by all means go ahead.

I agree with z1ppy, 50p for a star nut and just tap it in with a long bolt and a hammer.

I am a headdoctor and fsa connix unconvert. The connix was OK, but partic the HD is prone to creep, they also get firmly stuck, necessitating complete dissembly and hammering from the underside. The temptation when they creep is to keep tightening them until the steerer cracks. Not an issue with steel steerers, which tend to be less smoothly finished.

Smack a SFA in. Job done in 10 seconds. Lighter, more reliable, cheaper.

If your steerer tube isn't cut square, a SFN is pretty hard to knock in straight.

Slightly squiffy cut to the steerer tube here => hope hed doctor.

 I must have a talent then, my mum will be so proud..

.
.
EDIT: I'm not using a star nut setting tool, which would be an issue with a squiffy cut steerer tube, just a long bolt and a bit of hand eye co-ordination
