Which one to choose to use at BPW etc? The full 9 has the security of the fixed chin guard but the super dh has mips. Any advice on either? Thanks.
Super dh for me . As good as a full face when clipped on but also a top trail helmet when taken off . Really clever design
Yes I like it for that, I already have a 3r. But every review I read states the Full 9 is a safer more secure helmet. That's the confusing bit as they both have the same certification.
Where are you reading that the Full 9 is safer? What's the justification given? If the certification is the same then Bell would have to have come out and said the Full 9 is safer? Otherwise that might just be perception because of the removable chin bar?
Both very good helmets IMO though, don't think you'll go wrong with either from a protection point of view. Super DH probably more versatile if you remove etc bar and use it as a 'standard' helmet too.
I can’t recommend the Super DH highly enough.
First ride felt a bit weird as a trail helmet as it comes down further than I’m used to on the forehead, plus the sweat pad is full wraparound with no vents, but after a couple of rides I’d got used to it. It actually works very well, no sweat dripping on my glasses or down my face, which is an improvement over the 2R.
Vit feels very secure in both guises, the retention system is great & I don’t feel the mips moving while im
Riding, though it’s easy to move with my hands.
I’ve used it as a full face riding in the Vosges & an open face locally & in Finale.
I had a 2R before which never really fitted properly, hard contact points at the back of my head but took a chance on the Super as I was told the fit was much improved.
Love it. If I crash it I’d buy another.
which would be your choice for long, really hot days?
@groundskeeperwilly https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/reviews/biking/downhill-helmet/bell-full-9. Also in a few other reviews as well. I've actually made a snap decision and bought the carbon full9 on offer on Amazon. It was £50 approx cheaper than the super dh. If I don't like it then it can go back and I will check out the super.
I think on a hot day the super dh would win easily.
Their review of the Super DH says, in the protection section, "The lighter feel of this helmet is a little bit disconcerting". Despite admitting that it passes all the same certifications.
I don't think I'll be taking much notice of any of their other reviews.
