[#6453220]

I've just bought a disc cross frame with bb30. About to buy a crankset and looking at the cx1 in BB30

I've heard there are issues with bb30 and its pretty rubbish (damn it!) So should i get a gxp crankset with adaptor or just go with the bb30? Thinking it probably won't make that much difference apart from availablity of better BB's?

Anyone recommend a BB30 bottom bracket?

Tbh i'm a bit confused by it all! 😕

BB30 is a very good standard.

The bb30 on my caadx (and MTB) is just two bearings and some circlips direct in the frame, there's no bb sleeve or shell. Quite like this arrangement - you knock em out and you knock em in at ten quid a go.
Not had to do this particularly frequently - maybe if you're racing the bollox off it then it's a different story.

yea.. not sure it's going to be that great in mud and wet conditions. Been searching around and haven't read that many good things about it

PF BB30 in a carbon shell is a really crap idea. The bottom bracket on my carbon crux fell apart when something happened to make the drive side cup (one of those crappy plastic things, FSA Road I think)
turn in the shell (the bearing didn't seize). This wore away the carbon so much the inner shell parted from the frame. Just got the warranty replacement frame and it has the same design. Hope it last longer than the twenty rides I got out of the old one. Looks like the cups are at least glued in this time. My DeVinci road bike on the other hand has aluminium sleeves in the BB shell and using campag's aluminium PF BB30 cups I am far more confident everything will stay put.

Had BB30 on my Cannondale Super X wasn't a problem once I put decent quality INA bearings. If using cheap bearings pop the seals off make sure there is plenty of grease in them. But the bearings are not expensive.

PF30 is worse than BB30. If you've got a proper BB30 frame I'd absolutely use BB30 rather than introducing adapters and what not.

My Chinese cx frame is bb30 and it's running a beer components eccentric..

Been running sweet for 6 months with no noises/issues .. Fair bit of mud too 🙂

Really? Only reason i was thinking of going with a praxis or kcnc is that the bearings might be more protected and might cause less damage in the long run.

BB30 bearings - no matter what the brand - seem to last about 600km in my Cannondale Rize. Granted it sees a lot of wet gritty mud, but still that's a fairly horrendous lifespan. And yes they're installed correctly. XT hollow BB's last many thousands of km in the same conditions.

got this from someone else

Frame manufacturers are not able to make the BB shell in such tight tolerances as required by BB30, resulting is either alot of creaking, or premature wearing of bearings.
BB30 bearings are not as well shielded (almost can say there's none) as compared to GXP and this usually means more frequent BB bearing changes compared to GXP.

Even Cannondale who is the founder of BB30 is moving to PF30.

Between BB30 and GXP, I strongly feel that GXP is better.

It speaks volumes that cannondale are moving to PF30

Yeah - its a bit crappy for CX, bearings dont last long at all, especially through the winter, muddy races and jet washing etc.
I've got BB30 frames and fitted a FSA sleeve so you can run a standard BSA bottom bracket. Much better, lasts longer and its alot easier to replace when needed.
