[#7324659]

Just started building up a 45650b and it got off to the worst possible start, nearly...

I was having trouble getting the driveside BB in by hand, I assume because it's a new frame and the threads weren't particularly well prepared. Eventually I ended up doing some minor damage to the outer couple of threads, so I tried to clean them up with various sharp metal objects and them tried again with the BB. I eventually got it in perfectly straight, but not at all smoothly.

I'm almost certain it's not cross threaded, rather I think the BB itself was stripped of it's threads on the way in. That said, it seams pretty solidly in there and as it's a hollowtech BB the crank should hold it in place even if it does want to come a little loose.

So the question is do I leave it for now and worry about it when I need a new BB, or will I end up damaging the frame?

Had similar with a 456, badly cut threads it was almost like they'd cut the same thread both sides!

I ended up having to get the lbs to chase and fit it, he had to do the next couple of replacement bb's too, each needed chasing first. I stuck a hope in it after a couple of xt' as by that point there wasn't much left in there and figured it wouldn't need to come out again I could just change the bearings (and then wrote the frame off on the next ride..)

I'd suspect the steel threads on yours (mine were ally) would eat the bb first though, I'd probably wind it out again inspect the threads grease and see how easily it goes back in then if all ok leave it.

Any damage has been done, the LBS with the thread chasing tool is what is needed, now or when you change the BB.
tried again with the BB. I eventually got it in perfectly straight, but not at all smoothly.

Doesn't sound very good.
