Looking to replace my very old Dakine and TLD Moto baggys. Looking for:
Suitable for UK summer riding (I have a set of waterproof Nukeproofs)
Breathable enough for long rides, tough enough for DH/crashing
Baggy enough to wear with knee pads
Long enough to not have pad gap (minimum inseam 13")
Not crazy long (ie Humvee 3/4s)
Zip pockets for phone/key
As close to plain black as possible
I was going to get the Nukeproof Nirvanas but they are out of stock
I tend to gravitate (pun unintended...) towards brands like TLD/Dakine/Fox/Raceface etc, but open to other options.
(I have searched but no luck!)
Thanks,
Duane.
I got a pair of Endura Hummvee baggies a few weeks ago and am chuffed to bits with them.
Pockets everywhere, zip vents and connected inner padded shorts as well
To sum up the dogs what’s it’s
Just got some Endura SingleTrack Lites, I think they check all your boxes but I don't have anything to compare to on durability.
Im wearing good old Endura singletrack 3/4. Same shorts have lasted it's years now, forget how many its been that long. 7 or 8 😕
Has 6 pockets. Two long on the back that have a long cut side entry, a bit like pockets on a riding top, so easy to get into while ridding. Usual 2 on the front with one of those having a 2nd zipped section and a hip coin pocket thats quite big.
A bit of reflective piping and thigh vents with mesh. Side and front belt adjusters, and it clicks together with Endura padded shorts.
On the back just below the waistband is a stretch panel that gives a bit of ventilation right above your er....bum crack.. 🙂
Sits just below the knee, and has adjuster straps to keep them tight or loose in summer for that wind tunnel action 😀
My only complaint about this is that arent waterproof. I would wear them all year then.
I just bought a pair of these: https://www.merlincycles.com/race-face-indy-mtb-shorts-142987.html
I'm firmly in the XC camp rather than DH so my lightweight RF knee pads are pretty much perfect with the shorts. Definitely no pad gap. Not sure how well 'bulky' pads would fit.
Thanks all. Don't need a million pockets, just a zipped one on each side.
AD - I like the look of the Indys (although the exposed crotch zip is a little odd..)
What size are yours? How do you find the fit? Could you do me a massive favour and measure the short's inseam and outseam please?
Other decent looking option is the Ion Amp Traze, either regular or long versions.
Madison flux have a couple of zipped pockets and are nice and light feeling.
Thanks, any idea what the inseam of the Flux is? A quick google doesn't tell
Mine are a size M. Inseam is 13" and outseam is 22". Fit is spot on from my perspective - basically not lycra tight but not super baggy such that they flap everywhere! I'm a 30/32 in trousers/71kg if that helps.
Polaris have their discovery zoned mtb shorts on sale at the moment.
It says clearance price due to high fabric wear on seat.
Anyone got these? Just wondering if they’re worth a punt at the price.
Been wearing endura Humvees/MT500's for years with no complaints, find them spot on!
I've just bought some Humvees, but watch the sizing if you do get some. My other pair are a large (I like them baggy) so I bought the same again and they're massive.
I need new shorts and I’ve ordered those Polaris shorts worth a punt at £42
Ta
Im around a 32-33” waist and have an old old pair of Endura burned shorts in Small
Bought humvees in Small and they are mega tight and sit above the knee an inch or more and give that **** gap between pads and shorts
I also have a pair of Madison shorts and I’m on a size M or L can’t remember what but sizing is way off all other pairs I own if other brands
Then I have 4 pairs of Fox all 32” and perfect fit really comfy and work well for SCOTTISH summer
Also would like to try the Polaris ones, but they look very long legged. They are called shorts though, and none of the reviews indicate anything odd. Surely 'no returns' is against distance selling regs if unworn?
I thought exactly the same on the Polaris shorts. No returns is against the regs I think.
I’m going to call them tomorrow and ask about the shorts as I’ve bought from Polaris in the past with no problems.
Did you get a response from them on this.? Was looking at these just now and at that price they'd be a steal but the clearance listing and lack of returns implies that they are not new/have been worn extensively.
I've emailed them for clarification but if you already got a response then that would be helpful.?
Given what we have been experiencing this year I just cut the legs off my pyjamas.
Morevelo RAD.
Lightweight and tough. Zipped pockets. Plain black.
Year. Endura short sizing seems to have changed. I was L. Bought new ones in L and massive, sent them back and shall go for M instead
Raceface are the best shorts I’ve had. They just last.
Madison seem to have a strange cut - too low in the crotch.
I spoke with someone at Polaris about the shorts.
They said they had a couple of complaints that the seat area was wearing quickly so Polaris decided to reduce the the price of the shorts and put a note in the website saying no returns.
He did add that they've sold a lot of these shorts with no problems and he has had a pair for a couple of years with no sign of wear.
It's a calculated risk but I will be ordering some of these and see how it goes. I've had the waterproof shorts from Polaris before and they've been brilliant.
