Around the 20L size:

What are the main contenders and good VFM ££? £80-100

Currently have a Camelback Octane 8 which is just a sack really and an overly bulky and white(!) Lezyne pack.

Take your pick, they are all good.

I have an Escapist in 25L size which is great for bikepacking and shorter day walks. They also do an 18L version. These are geared towards biking.

I also have a 33L Talon which is also great. I use this for hill walking/backpacking. They also do smaller versions in 18L and 22L. These are more geared towards hiking.

As km, I like Osprey.

I wore out one Talon 22 but I used it for everything: work, hillwalking, commuting, shopping, even a weeks sport climbing in Kalymnos. Lasted 4-5 years of continuous everyday use. The zip gave out in the end, plus it looked a bit shabby 😀

Currently using an 18L version for bikepacking.

My mate got an Escapist after me pointing him in that direction, I'd go for that (in 22L) over a Talon biking wise now.

ETA: They come in two sizes S/M and M/L so choose according to height (I have M/L)...
