Any recommendations? I'm looking to take my 7 month old out on the bike soon.
Is 7 months too young maybe?

IMO 7 months old is a little young wait till at least a year old. Look at the small fry helmets from specilized.

Lazer max was the smallest I could find but it didn't fit my boy until he was about 1

Giro, one with planes on, but then my boy has a massive head just like his dad...

The lack of suitable helmets might be telling you something. I'd agree that 7 months is too young (took mine in a trailer at that age in a car seat, but in that case you don't need a helmet).

there is a lot of caution about putting kiddies in helmets as it adds weight to their already floppy heads.

So in a car seat and in a trailer is the safest way to bring them along?

That or in a specific infant sling like http://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/p/17251/thule-chariot-infant-sling

Good luck finding a trailer that takes a car seat. Most of the main manufacturers (burley, chariot, croozer) do a baby support harness which fits into their normal trailer seats.

I think Abus make the smallest baby helmet going - suitable from 46cm. Small_Fiat was in his, in the trailer from about 8 months. He wasn't so sure. Much happier in the weeRide, though wrap em up warm as it's cold up front.

I had my daughter on the bike at 6 months. She could hold her head up fine and loved every minute. Bumpier the better.
Have a look at the giro me2 helmet. It's the only one we found that doesn't make your child look like a mushroom.

Giro me2 or the older model (think it was the Spree) worked for all my kids

Decathlon do a good one. We had a Bell one first, but swapped to the Decathlon one when we tried it in the shop. Not sure how small they go though, our Son was a bit under 2 when we got it.

Not that hard to strap one into pretty much any trailer (I'm sure the manufacturers don't recommend it, but can't see any reason why it should be a problem if securely attached) - though a proper sling is better.

I'd not recommend using a helmet in a trailer even if using the normal seat, as it will stop them resting their head normally and put extra load on neck muscles without actually doing anything useful.

Lazer p'nut a great option. Tried a few on my wee boy and girl and it's definitely the best. It's got a great auto adjust mechanism and a really clever magnetic clip on the strap which avoids pinching. When my kids were that wee I put them in the chariot trailer. The sling allows down to 8 weeks or something like that. Think 9 months or so before went for the hamax seat. Could help but think that an accidental spill, even a minor one, would be horrendous if they were too wee.
