Have you tried putting it near another atom with much higher electronegativity?

Obvs. First thing I tried.

Put the tool in a vice and use the wheel as leverage. Works for singlespeed cogs which get rammed on pretty bloody tight.

That's a good idea. No vice though to my shame.

Got it off by applying more force, sat down with wheel between my legs. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't tightening it more. Thinking about it logically though, it'd be unsafe to have a reverse thread on a freewheel.

Whilst I'm here, what lube/grease for reassemblings? I took it off to get the hub out to clean and repack with grease. Any oil/grease on the freewheel parts/pawls etc? I've cleaned everything up with carb cleaner.

Restoring an old 80's racer. Well, basic servicing really.

I just put a smear of standard lithium grease on stuff before assembly.
