Second hand fork. Thread in poor condition anyway, 'Ah, stuff it, I'll give it a go anyway'

Whoops!

What are my options other than replace the lowers? The thread is knackered all the way in, save for about 2 threads, if I'm lucky.

Helecoil insert, cheap, easy and effective.M6x1 if you decide to buy your own kit.

Helicoil. I got an M6 kit for £27 - 15 inserts plus the right size drill bit and the tap and tang removal tool.

Stupid post mount.

This is why I like IS mounts on forks and frames with adapters that weight a minuscule amount.

Nah, Post mount is much better, its the stupid ham-fisted ejits that are the problem... 😕 😉

You say the thread is stripped all the way in - is that just with the standard bolts?

Reason I ask is that I actually did the exact same thing a couple of weeks after buying my MX Comps about 4 years ago after an ill advised trailside fix. 😳

I was looking at helicoils etc but I actually got away with it by just using some slightly longer bolts -they've been fine ever since.

Unfortunately I've checked to see if I can do the longer bolt trick and I can't.

I've just ordered a Helicoil kit. Thanks for the pointers chaps.
