[#7630493]

Set off for the new build!

Accounted for everything..... Or so I thought!

Turning a triple into 1x and I'm guessing I need different/shorter chainring bolts ๐Ÿ™

I have a wobbly ring!

Hmmmmm, this was the build that I accounted for everything!

I'll pop to NWMB later and see if they have any.

I have ground them down a bit with an angle grinder in the past, just to get me out on the bike ๐Ÿ™‚

No angle grinder I'm afraid.

How frustrating!

Hacksaw and file works just as well.

It's the sleeve that's too long I believe. It sits proud of the chainring.

yeh

or, if the chainring is recessed on the inside, turn it over so the chainring bolts don't sink into it. Might be enough if you're close

(or cut "washers" out of an old worn out chainring?)

^ That's what i meant - rather than cutting down the chainring bolts just take a hacksaw to the mounting points of the chainring and use them as spacers.

So flipping the chainring worked ๐Ÿ™‚

Does it matter? Are they directional in any way?

fine. get some shorter bolts in and you can flip the chainring around when it's started to wear. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Good fix, that'll work fine. You can also often get round this by reversing the nuts, i.e. the inside bit of the bolt. Not pretty but it'll get you rolling until you can get hold of some enduro-specific 1x chainring bolts.

Now the only problem is my lack of fitness and the 32t NW and 40t extender leaving me gasping ha

I've always flipped chairnings (normal and N/W) in the past because I'm tight. Never had an issue!

Not that it really matters but see that little knoble on the inner part of the chain ring on the top photo, it should be behind the crank arm.

That'll put the writing the same way up as the SLX on the crank arm too.

You can bodge this by making washers from 1p coins

I used the inserts from an old bash guard.

The orientation notch that should've lined up with the crankarm tickles my OCD...

32t NW and 40t

I'm sure I said go 30t x 42t. And then you come on here all moany ๐Ÿ˜‰

Seriously though, 32x40 will be fine.

Rickon, that's what Orange offered me for the frame mix up.

They only had 40t Hope T - Rex and 32t NW ๐Ÿ™‚

if you use a 30t you don't need shorter bolts, as the ring itself is threaded

What mount do you need?

Have a couple in the spares bin you can have. In south mancs.
