North about 16 miles would be the Malverns, East about 20 would be the Cotstwolds, West about 20 miles Black mountains?

Plenty of places to ride near there- FOD is only about 40mins away

cheltenham is probably closet and for that you need leckhampton hill. park up at daisybank car park then walk up the fire road to the top, lots of single track and a play jumpy area. other than that the fod trail centre is pretty good fun for a day out of xc/dh

walk on lecky? where???? the hill isn't that hard to ride up.

In fact i would say there are very few tracks that can't be ridden with a little bit of belief.

Anyway from Hartbury, head to Maisemore and Gloster follow the bypass, up Birdlip hill, turn right at the roundabout, 2nd exit, carry on to the top of the hill just after the overtaking lane ends turn right, then fairly quickly turn right again. Dump car at the carpark here and follow your nose.

One point if you see anything odd in the woods its normal.

the 'tramway' fireroad is easy enough to ride, the one above that to the very top is a bit more challenging - particularly if you're doing it repeatedly!

Birdlip parking spot is something!! I stopped there after visiting relatives in Gloucester. Thought I'd have my sandwich and admire the view whilst on my way to Oxford. I had a guy in a parked car get quite irritated with me as he kept getting out of his vehicle going through a gate into the coppice nearby. He repeated this about three times and then drove off after he gave me a grumpy look. Didn't realise it was one of those places til I mentioned it to a mate from Stonehouse who laughed his head off and told me what went on up there. Oh righto!!!
