As per title, got the opportunity to go to Bulgaria and stay with a friend in Sofia. Any cycling in the area or a drive away?

Also, what time of year is best to go?

Don't understand!

But to confirm for others I'll be stopping with my great uncle, he's moved out recently from Wimbledon

Vitosha Mountain in Sofia has loads of trails!
The lift runs at the weekend but it's possible to ride up.
You can even catch a bus from the centre with your bike!
Borovets is an hour away and has approx 6 trails but is probably closed at this time of year
I have ridden at both and went in July.
Hope that helps

Ridden there on the motorbike. Looks like there would be plenty to ride on the mountain bike. Don't forget to go to Buzludzha. It's a bit of a squeeze to climb into but it's worth it.

(yes, I know, it's very annoying when I post pictures from amazing places, isn't it?)

I was also in Sofia a few weeks ago, but flew down for a conference. It's a fab place - just different enough from most of "nearby" Europe to make it interesting.
