Anyone ever ridden a high end folding bike? Something like a Dahon Mu SL or similar. Whay are they like, in isolation and compared with, say, a hybrid on the road?

compromised still. I've ridden a birdy and they're pretty expensive, still not as good as a proper bike though.

the wife reckons her airnimal is pretty good in comparison to her proper road bike

Had a Dahon Speed Pro. It was an old one and a bit flexy, new ones are a lot better. It was suprisingly comfortable and very quick. rode it round london and had no problems doing 30+mph down the hill from Brixton to London. It didn't fold up that small though, not as much as a brompton. however, i only bought it so i could carry my bike into the office. i thought the SRAM 3 geared hub with 9 speed cassette was superb. Instant "front chainring" changes, even when stationary.

it was a bit compromised though. calling in at tescos was annoying as i couldn't leave it locked up (fear of getting nicked)> Going to the pub was a problem too as it was too big to just stash under the table.

in the end i replaced it with an old MTB that i could lock up without fear of getting it nicked as it looks rubbish and didn't cost much.

oh and the other thing is, i didn't like standing up on the pedals (maybe just unjustified paranoia about it snapping!)

Ah, but show me a "proper" bike where you can do Whitty's new stunt of wheelieing it by standing on the rack... ๐Ÿ™‚

i met a chap doing LEJOG on his airnimal by choice since it was more comfortable over long distances - he loved it
