Looking for a hardtail for general trail riding.
Would spend up to £1500.
Any sweet deals about you would suggest?
I'm not too au fait with MTB stuff these days so need some help.
This looks pretty good:
A touch over budget but a great bike and a good deal. Wish I had the cash!

Arguably that Bitmap is pretty expensive for the spec vs the Orange. Although the Hope wheels are better than the wheels on the Orange - and you’re getting a low volume frame that is more unique. I think for the price difference I’d still take the Orange though.
Hard to see past this for the price, assuming they have your size ofc.

Good spec on the cube but very xc based geometry with a 69 degree headangle.
Depends what the op is after I guess. The Orange / bitmap are both fairly long / slack trail bikes - the cube isn’t.
I have my eye on one of these: https://www.paulscycles.co.uk/m1b0s182p8674/MARIN-NAIL-TRAIL-7-27-5-2018
That cube looks great value too.
Stif Morf? Just spec it with some lower range components. Bloody brilliant bike, favourite of all The hardtails I’ve owned.

Needs a dropper but a Brand-X from CRC fits fine for under £100.
Depends how XC/gnar you want it. The Ritchey isn't the latter.
The Chameleon is very tempting for that cost - although it’s got a worse spec than every other bike in this thread for the money. Bling vs spec? Recon vs revelation is the main thing that jumps out.
buy a frame and build one
Was in the Market for a budget 29er Hardtail. So ordered a Marin Bobcat Trail 5 for £529 from Paul's. Ordered yesterday morning, arrived this morning. Great looking bike.

It's not really bling. It's a set of santa Cruz stickers on a HT frame.
I would really notice the fork damping difference. I think the penny pinch spec would frustrate long term as it would wear out more quickly.
What kind of riding do you do?
I have that Marin by the way
Good spec, great riding, alarmingly quick due to light wheels. More thoughts here:

i got that spec chameleon for £1150 in feb18 (less£50 ebay topcashback)
the fork was really skinny so i sold it on.. Far better spec bikes than that..
not seen many hardtail offers, full sus offers
5010 mk2 carbon is 1/2 price on stif
mondraker carbon foxy £2.5k on tredz
I don’t think the op has been back since the first post!
For me I wouldn’t buy the Santa Cruz with the spec. Personally I recently bought a bargain Virus hardtail frame and built it up myself for less than the £1500 but with a much better spec. But then I already had some bits in the garage and I bought second hand likes rather than new but lower spec forks.
I personally like the Orange I linked above and I think that’s where my money would go if I had £1500 to buy a new bike already built. Also leaves budget for a few cheeky upgrades or riding kit.

Yeah I've been lurking.
I was thinking of the Chameleon but some people here are saying the spec is bad. The Orange looks a good deal but worry it's too much travel for me and thinking about it I might prefer 29 wheels.
And are Cube a 'good' brand ?

Here you go then. Orange with less travel, 29 inch wheels. Extra 10% off with the code. Just hope it's your size...
I need a large unfortunately but I'm seriously thinking about the 27.5 Orange Clockwork 137 at Rutland,
Large in stock here.
Excellent. I ordered one.
Did you order the 27.5 or the 29er? Either should probably do a good job. Love the look of the nice compact looking frame in that green sort of colour! Should be a great bike.
I went for the 29er.
I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread!
Anybody ran the 129 on plus tyres?
Any comments about the 129 are welcome as we're about to go and have a look at one.

The 129S is great. Not light but well equipped, climbs fantastically and goes like stink when you stomp on the pedals. It's excellent on anything but rocky and rooty tech and the perfect bike for razzing around the woods and the moors of the northern Peak District. I haven't done any big rides on mine so can't comment on all-day comfort (or otherwise).
Note the Kore Dropper on it essentially doesn't exist from a maintenance and service point of view (no instructions) and it'll be the first thing to go when it starts causing hassle but 4 months in it still goes up and down.
that first link for the 27.5" Orange for £1079 (using code) is fantastic. 29er deal almost as good and probably better for general riding.
Well this is what I got:
Where did you get that front mudguard thing?
