I’m looking at buying a nice summer road bike no more than 2k budget. I have a croix de fer with hunt 4 season wheels and would like something lighter and more exiting to ride. I’ve been watching eBay and gumtree since lockdown began but second hand prices are crazy. Back in March there was a good stock of 2019 bikes but they’re all long gone. Do you think 2020 stock will go on sale in late summer? Looking at the likes of a giant defy, cannondale synapse, canyon endurance or a ribble r872.
Speaking to my LBS recently, they haven't been able to keep up with demand for bikes, and the suppliers are running put fast. People walking in, asking what's in stock, buying it without quibble or haggle and walking out. Next customer comes in, repeats the process. Been like that for weeks.
Plenty of popular bikes like the ones you mention are sold out in full for the current model year, and supply chains aren't up to speed on restocking, might just go to the next model year instead.
So, while there may be some deals, availability is going to be your big issue here!
That’s what in was thinking most won’t ship till August, but I didn’t want to buy it now then wait till then only to see the price drop a bit. Probably the worst time to buy bike just now might just ride what I have and pick up a second hand bargain in the winter.

Yup,it has gone a bit nuts.
Can you shave some weight off the CDF and give it a makeover ?
pick up a second hand bargain in the winter.
I think that may be wise! Suspect many purchases made during glorious lockdown weather, when there was precious little else you could spend money on, will find themselves languishing in sheds from September. Bargains to be had when the post-Christmas credit card bills start landing on doormats!
Do you know how much your bike weighs?
I've got an Alu Domane 2 from 2015 it's c9.6kg with pedals, bottle cages. Just before lockdown I was close to a new job I could bike to and was going to get a new bike. Looking at the Domane SL5 (carbon and disk brakes) it's actually heavier (9.9kg) than my old metal one (tho' mine has rim brakes). I was surprised that newer and more expensive wasn't lighter.
One version of the Emonda that I looked had had a 0.7kg weight saving between rim vs disk, so if that Domane SL5 had rim brakes, pedals and cages it would weigh about the same as mine
On the 6.8kg bike thread, it looks like I could drop a lot of weight via the current (bog standard) wheels & tyres I'm running.
I'm still a bit peeved that I've missed out on a new bike, commute and job and sympathise with the urge for a new bike, but you may be able to upgrade yours to put a bit of zing back.
Croix de fee = alot.
It's also a very numb feeling frame..... wife has one. It weighs more than my rove and it manages to just ride heavy despite being comparitively specced bikes.
It wouldn't be hard to put more zing in your ride with almost any other frame.
I purchased a Cannondale Topstone 105 from these guys yesterday:
was a couple of hundred quid off the retail price (as they offer a 'best price'), despite them selling like hotcakes.
Stock is limited on what they have, but worth a call/email.
