Is there any decent trails in Ampthill without getting in a car to Woburn or Chicksands etc? If anyone know of anything would be appreciated - just moved to the area!
There's stuff around Millbrook and you could do a loop from Ampthill to Woburn, instead of using the car!
There's a big Harlington xc loop. Got the map somewhere.
Ooh ooh
We took the MBR guys on a Woburn to Chicksands route, that passed Ampthill.
Still got the mag with the map of that ride.
I'm slowly getting back into biking having had wrist and knee problems so don't know as much as I should
Maulden would has some stuff but is more prone to the wet than Woburn or Chicksands
You could cycle to either with plenty of off road on the way
You need to get in touch with these guys

so far I've failed but haven't tried very hard
there is a small jump spot on the edge of the heath as well. just off station road. Not my thing, but it may be yours
If I get fitter I'll be in touch
Cheers for the responses guys
Carl - do you know what issue of MBR? Ive got a couple of issues up in the loft that might have it in. Cheers
Email below, address it to Nick Hart, he lives in Ampthill, a group of between 4-10 go out Tuesday/Wednesday nights. They alternate each week, this week the 24/3/09 it's Tuesday night, meet at Oliver street corner of Russel drive at 18:30 hrs, ride till 20:30-21:00 hrs then a few jars after in the Old Sun pub most of the time there's two groups to cater for a some that have just started. Distance around 20 miles.

Chicksands (Rowney Warren) is rideable from Ampthill, going via Maulden woods + Chicksands woods makes it interesting. Check the OS map.
I used to do a loop from Ampthill that took in Flitwick(opposite leisure centre) - Flitwick Plantation - Moneypot Hill (byway) - A507 - Millbrook woods - home, with a few seasonal variations due to very sticky clay in the winter. For which I recommend 1.95's + singlespeed.
Used to live in Ampthill before changing career + moving to the Peaks.
