[#11079219]

Fitting new XT 8100 drivetrain this afternoon - onto an Orbea Oiz.

Can anyone confirm whether the 10-51 mech is direct or standard mount? I thought Shimano mechs were direct but the new hanger I have looks all kinds of wrong (and I can't line the mech up with the big sprocket even with the limit screw wound all the way out..)

Plus this evidence...

From a singletrack Shimano 12sp review (on an Oiz)

Somewhat jaunty on mine...

Does this help ? I replaced an 11 speed SRAM (which was shit) with a 12 speed Shimano mech with 10-50 SRAM cassette and chain on a Zesty. It all works fine, the limit screws are nowhere near the limit of their range.

Looks like you have a direct mount drop out but a standard mount rear derailleur. I believe Shimano doesn't offer direct mount for 12 speed so it looks like you'll need a new drop out for your frame.

Yep… Shimano do it again… change… dump change.

Thanks!

Next stupid question - will the hanger that I took off with the SRAM Eagle stuff and chucked into the corner do the job, or is that yet another standard?

Yes. Hangers are either standard, or direct mount.

Great, only wasted nine quid then. Which is a result these days. 🙂

The direct mount style won’t allow the parallelogram geometry to allow the spread of ratios that people want, so they reverted to a traditional layout - albeit still lower profile than Sram mechs.

DM still used on GRX and road stuff where the ratios used allow it.
