I've had some trouble with my fork and spoke to the bike co that I bought it from, (direct by mail-order). They explained that the easiest/quickest way to sort it out would be to send it direct to the fork distributor for new internals...fair enough - I was told to expect approx a 5 day turnaround.

Anyway I sent it off 2 weeks ago but have been told by the distributor today that it would be another 2 weeks.

Obviously will leave me without my bike for a total of 4 weeks or so which is not ideal and have been told by the bike Co. that there's nothing that can be done to help out until it's sorted. (i.e no temporary fork etc).

Obviously I took the risk to buy direct from the company but if I'd bought from a LBS would they most likely have said the same thing or would they have been more helpful in getting on my bike while I waited for the fork to be fixed.
Any experiences or ideas?

Unfair of the retailer I think, you bought from them, so they have the obligation to sort the problem.

But if the forks are with the distributor and the problem is getting fixed, the retailer has no control over the timescale. The retailer's obligation under the Sale of Goods Act has been fulfilled by the fact they not only dealt with the issue, they also allowed for the customer to send the item directly to the distributor to speed up the warranty claim.
IMO they've done all they can, given the circumstances.

A good LBS would allow you to use one of their demo bikes in this situation. Which strengthens the case for supporting your LBS.

Certainly does and will be uppermost in my mind next time around.
I know the dealer legally doesn't have a responsibility to sort anything out but I'm fairly sure that when dealing face-to-face with a LBS it would easier to work out some sort of temporary deal. Still, you live and learn!

Thankfully I've got use of another bike to keep me going but not necessarily what I'd want to be riding all the time.
