My existing rear tyre is wearing out, and direct replacements are either out of stock or very expensive.
So what other options should I be looking for (i.e. reasonably robust, fast-ish, supple)?
(I'm in Canada so links to cheap supplies of GP5000TL in the UK or Europe only rub salt into the wound, so let's keep this about tyre choice,eh 😉)
The new Vittoria Corsa Next is getting good reviews, is apparently a more robust Corsa that still rolls fast, seats easily if tubeless, reasonable weight.
I've been really happy with my Vittoria CX and gravel tyres so will be happy to try the road tyres once my GP4000S wear out
I’m a big fan of the Gp5000, excellent puncture resistance, grip and speed but they are expensive and have been hard to find in stock in 28mm width. I’ve had a Pirelli p zero tlr on the back for about 1000 miles and am very impressed, holds pressure over time much begetter also
I've been on stock alerts for 28mm tubeless Conti GP5k for a couple of months. There's none to be had.
Those Vittoria n.ext are not released yet, they're on pre-order.
It's a tyre drought.
And yes, old tubed GP5k used to be £50 RRP but readily available at £35, which at the time seemed expensive.
Now it's £75, no discount and no stock.
Hutchinson Sector are quite good. I had them prior to my GP5000TL and they lasted well and rolled quite well. Not as good as GP5000TL, but worth it for half the price.
I normally run GP5000s, but last year swapped to Pirelli P Zero TLRs as I couldn't get hold of the tubeless 5000s when I needed them. Very impressed so far and have already bought another pair for when these wear out.
NB Only run them during the dry months, my winter bike still has GP5000s on it (with tubes).
Not sure how pre-order the n.ext can be as there was a stack for sale in my LBS (Woodrup leeds).
I'd just refuse to mix tyre types/brands and find some on ebay or fb marketplace honestly. Some moron will have bought them, failed to inflate them tubeless with a road race pocket pump and given up.
I've just had the same dilemma this morning.
Decided to go with the Pirelli P Zero. £50 cheaper than the GP5000str too.
Same dilemma as need to replace the OE Vittoria Rubino Pro TR that are after 18 months quite worn, with one irreparably holed. Went innocently to purchase 2x GP5000TR at either 28 or 30mm as knew they were seen as the best in reviews.....£150 if available. Bloody hell. Will definately look for alternatives and see if price softens as the summer draws to an end.
My gp5000s were looking a bit worn the other day so looked at replacing 😱.
I’ll be leaving them until I absolutely cannot see the wear indicators and then seeing what’s about…
Hoping it’s a summer drought and there will be some in time for Xmas…
Equally worried! My GP4000s have about 8000km on them (although subtracting indoor mileage on the trainer tyres that might only be 6000km or so).
Best set some stock alerts, maybe running old school skinny 25s might help...
Bike 24 have some: https://www.bike24.com/p2530144.html (some other sizes available too).

Isn't that when you're supposed to change them? I wait till they've vanished before swapping them out.

+1 for this on Sectors.
I have been running IRC RBCC 28mm for a few years. Last well. Grip superbly and are pretty fast rolling. I find them comfortable too.
I've been running Hutchinson Fusion Galacktic's in 25mm on my good bike. They are super lightweight, ride well, not had any issues with punctures but have had a bit of an issue with air getting between the carcass and outer rubber, causing what looks like small blisters in patches. I've just popped them with a pin and they've gone away no issue.
I have had similar issues with other Hutchinsons (fusion 11) and Sigma have warrantied them (send them in when they're nearly worn out for free replacements).
My next tyres are likely to be the tubular Veloflex's, in either standard or race, whichever comes into stock in the right size / colour first.
GP5000s review well but are so, predictable?

Somebody had to....🙄
😉
Wowsers pricey.
I’ve got panaracer gravel kings as I wanted 32’s and tbh got them silly cheap eu and am quite happy, had gp5000 but tbh don’t think they are worth 3x more.
Not apples and apples thou but I’m not doing any vueltas this year 🙂
I'm another fan of the Pirellis (tubeless) - I think they're excellent

Anyone here have long lasting / in depth experience with exactly: GP5000 vs Pirelli P-Zero?
Interested because I'm a die hard 4k/5k user and wouldn't consider any other tyre, but the shortage / cost could mean I have to look elsewhere... Can P-Z possibly be as good rolling/puncture/grip wise? Continental literally have - without doubt - the *best* ratio of each.

They seem to be similar, I used to get 5000 km from GP5000s after which the TWI holes would vanish and I'd swap them out. This is the first year I've used P-Zeros and I noticed today that the rear is loosing the lines down the centre of the tread and the TWI holes are quite shallow. I've probably done 4500 ish km so far this summer on them.
I normally get through two sets of tyres a year with 10,000 km annual mileage, so they seem bang on target for that.
I've been using Pirelli P-Zeros for a while and have been really pleased with them. They feel fast, seem to last well and have good grip in wet weather - can easily recommend them.
Are folk using the P Zero race or classic? I had another puncture in my tubed GP5000s yesterday, the wheels are tubeless ready so I'm getting tempted.
My P Zeros sidewall failed - split sidewall perpendicular to the rim - while climbing! Weirdest puncture I’ve ever had... until that time I was happy with them, but am now considering the new Vittorias

Think mine are the "P-ZERO RACE SL TLR TYRE" in 28mm which is the only one compatible with hookless rims.

Yeah, it is, but they looked a cut up and sketchy even though the wear indicator has at least a mm or 2 to go.
