Been trying to organise a week in the Alps (Les Arcs) Have left it late due to people coming then not coming with me and generally messing around.
Anyway, was hoping to go the Trail Addiction route, but they now can't fit us in on the dates we can do. I have found an MTB friendly chalet, with all the facilities, but they don't do guiding.
So, my question is, should we just take the plunge and go (it's cheapish) and not worry about the lack of guiding, or is guiding essential in Les Arcs?
It will be our first trip to the Alps - on push bikes that is.
Its not essential but planning for riding anywhere you havent rode before is difficult. Im planning a trip there this year and have spent a hell of a long time route planning, this wasnt really possible last year when i went there for teh first time as i had no understanding of the place then.
Try the White Rooms, Mountain Bike Chalet (there are loads more) however they cant all guide this year due to frenchy laws, the white rooms can though
Or try basquemtb, or summitdown for some Italian Alps
I went to Chatel with summitdown last year and Trev made us aware then that he could not "guide" us on the trails. He gave us plenty of advice, maps etc to enable us to use the lift systems to get around. I had never been to the French Alps before, some had so we got by on the days we went out ourselves. Trev did join us for "group" rides but not as a guide ๐ He also took us over to Geneva for a trip up a mountain on a train then singletrack ride back down, ace ๐
Looks like lots of guiding around Lake Garda nowadays..the new Alps โ
If I get the chance to go abroad again it will be with either of those mentioned or somewhere in Spain or back to Verbier
Cheers folks. Our hosts have said they will help us with route planning etc, so we should be fine. We can also hire a local guide too if required, so if we're struggling it's an option.
Thanks for the input for other places, food for thought for next year!

Trekster,
Luca will also give you advice on Garda trails.
We'll be making use of their services again this May. Hopefully the snow will have cleared from the upper trails by then.
