Quick question

Building up a Inbred 29er frame which has disk horizontal dropouts.

I am finding that no matter how tight I do up the QR, the disk brake side of the dropout, when braking is pulling the rear wheeel out the dropout?

dropout looks like this (sample image)

Is there a cheap way of stopping this, can you replace the qr for a bolt up version?

Ta.

the axle's moving back in the slot?

are you using a chain tug on the other side?

I can see you have Planet X skewers, are they steel or another metal? I'd probably try another skewer as a cheap fix to rule out that first.

use chain tugs and/or some proper hub fixings..

if you have! to use a QR then make sure you use a shimano one

Fair enough, I'll still stand by changing skewers first though.

The pic was a sample image pulled off the web, but weirdly I am using planet x qr. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Will try another set of qr, thought about roughing up the paint a bit to see if the qr nut might grip a bit better too?

Use a chaintug drive-side only and decent qr like shimano. In over 3 years of using these style dopouts on steel and ti version I've never had a wheel move.

ops missed the OPs 2nd pots saying he was using tugs.

either why if you are using a QR then use a Shimano one, they are simply the best skewers (even if they weigh a bit), but then they work properly.

a solid axle and track nuts would the best though..

You'd need a whole new axle & nuts.

Ditch the tug on the disc side, it won't grip the frame as well as the QR nut will.

I used to have some, but they were sold as anti theft rather than keeping your wheel in place, so I'm not sure how they'd react to some serious tightening - I'd guess by rounding out rapidly. There's quite a lot of force on a decent QR once it's tightened over the cam.

cynic-al has the long term answer if its a serious problem. Do you have a really big rear disc or something as this isn't something I've come across (though I do use XT skewers...)

Thanks for the idea MB, already tried that ;-), still pulling out with or without the tug in place.

How easy is it to get a new axle with nuts?

Depends on the hub...shimano should be straightforward, others...no idea.

The caliper location on those frames is specifically positioned to avoid that problem. I'm puzzled it's happening at all.

Take the springs out of your QR, as they might be binding on the end of the axle, stopping it tightening properly?
