Looking at an uplift day but never ridden anything at Inners other than the red loop and Caddon Bank descent. I'm sure the other trails are a big step up and is it easy to pick the wrong one and end up out of my depth? Are the descents marked at all, as trailforks looks a bit of a maze. Lastly, where is the drop off point on the trail network?
Cheers.
Most of the trails are quite hard to follow and cross over each other a lot, you can quite easily end up going down something very steep and rooty. There are however some more tame trails and the lady behind the desk in the cabin was very helpful in pointing them out, as will other riders I'm sure.
Drop off point is on the fire road slightly below the top of the official DH trails, no one pushed up the last bit when I was last there
If you go slightly back down the way the van came, you can start off with Green Wing and Angry Sheep, the mellowest off-piste on the hill and great fun.
no one pushed up the last bit when I was last there
I'd recommend doing it though.
You can access the nice top bit of Gold/Cresta or whatever it is and have a go at the road gap.
Or scoot along a bit to ride Alastair Lees (really good and not too severe).
I'm an XC mincer and I'm fine there on a hardtail.
This does not indicate 'riding god' status, more pointing out that there is a way around the big scary bits.
Check trail forks to see what trails are open right now. The storms battered the place to hell and some of my favourite bits were closed and likely to never return.
Green wing and Angry Sheep are ideal starters. The rest like matador, cresta and gold run are definitely a step up in steepness. It's all fun and rideable. It's actually easier when you're on your bike than it is trying to navigate around some sketchy bits on foot.
Just to add Cresta is the easiest and best of the classic DH trails, worth doing multiple times.
Tbh Green Wing and Angry Sheep were my favourite and also happened to be the least gnarly, they're more flowy whereas the rest tend to be more tech trails.

I’d recommend doing it though.
Pushup is still closed.
Or at least it was on Sunday.
It's a little easier to follow a trail down the hill since the storm as they've now taped some of the trails.
Yeah, the pushup path got absolutely nailed by arwen. Not sure what the best way to access ali lees etc is just now? Push up top cresta possibly! (we cleared both cresta and matador top so it's just the access that's the issue)
Angry Sheep's bloody magnificent tbh, I could spend a whole day just riding that. Arguably a waste of an uplift as it loops so easily on the fireroad (and you lose a bunch of height to reach it, then you have a bit of a pedal back to the final descents) but it's pretty much a must at least once per visit imo. Green Wing would get pretty much the same comments if Angry Sheep didn't exist, because it's also brilliant, it's just not quite as good.
I always say the same thing about inners, the problem is that it's basically impossible to navigate. Not quite as bad as usual just now because of storm damage, but in the main dh trails everything is connected to everything else and you say "let's do cresta" and next thing you know you've gone down a random side trail without even knowing and your mate's gone down another one and you all arrive at the next road on different exists and none of them are cresta. So you've kind of got to embrace that but it makes it tricky to pick out mellower lines.
It could do with about, oh, 100 really visible signposts and arrows on trees. At least 100.
Pushup is still closed.
That'll explain it then.
😀

Every bloody time.
Well, Cresta is actually about the only one I can stay on track... most of the time.
OP - I also really enjoy Salmon's Journey next to Angry Sheep, if you feel like something a bit more challenging but not too spicy.
Salmons is also blocked. 😒
As a soft southern mincer, I was surprised at how steep angry sheep was, it looks quite flat in videos!
After a few runs down it I was getting into the rythm though, it's a fantastic trail.
I did an uplift day a while ago and it was brill, most of the trails are on trailforks and it should give you an idea of the steepness.
There are some proper mental steep trails there though, found myself on one in glentress and honestly I'm amazed I survived!!
I did 5 full runs on the uplift day, 4400ft or 1300m of descending, they stop for lunch so you'll have an enforced break.
The check in lady was super helpful on our first visit to recommend trails. You will soon be progressing onto some of the more challenging ones once you get your head round the steepness

Eh? It's as flat as a pancake. I suspect you might have ridden Angry BIRD which is very, very steep.
Salmons is also blocked
Do you know if the others between Salmons & DH trails are blocked as well ?

Nope, definitely angry sheep.
It's not steep for tweed valley/Scottish enduro trail standards, but for someone new to riding these trails the start and end were steeper than I was expecting.
See this is the thing, if you ride these trails regularly, angry sheep at 18% grade overall will feel flat, but it quite obviously isn't.
Hush hush was the trail at glentress I just survived, 28% grade. That probably feels flat to some people!! 😬

Yep.
Not for Hoofs, Barts and Angry Bird are all gone. 😒
Salmons is also blocked
Salmons is definitely clear, I rode it on Sunday. Best advice for an inners uplift if you're not familiar is to try and tag along with some others so you get a feel for what trails go where. I would say the marked trails, Cresta, Gold, Matador are quite easy to follow, others can be trickier though.
Angry Sheep, Green Wing and Deer Hunter are all pretty chill and lots of fun. In terms of what's open, it's pretty much as per Trail Forks. Everything between Matador and Gold is fine, Angry, Green Wing, Salmons Journey, Deer Hunter and Date Night are also all good. Date Night has been fixed up also and is slightly less brutal than before. The stuff between Salmon and Gold is pretty much destroyed.
Hush hush
A MUCH harder trail than Angry Sheep and unfortunately another victim of Arwen.
How are the newer off-piste trails at GT?
Thunderstruck, careless whisper, Jailbreak etc survive OK?

I presumed it was shut as we saw a few people drop into it on Sunday then a few minutes later they were pushing back up out of the entrance to AS.
This was also on Sunday morning.
Glad to hear it's clear though as I quite like Salmons.
Thunderstruck, careless whisper, Jailbreak etc survive OK?
At GT last night and Jailbrake is still closed.
Thunder and Careless are both open.

Not sure about jailbreak but the others are fine, as are:
Zorro
Trail Fairy Plan
Hammertime (unfortunately)
Ho Chi Min
Daves

They probably realised they had accidentally dropped into it instead of Angry. I rode it after lunch on Sunday and it was 100% clear....and still wet!
Cheers for the trail reports, up there May time for a week.
Bear in mind Valleluja is on 7th and 8th May. This may be good or bad depending on your preferences.

I'll add to the list of trails that are defo open.
The Huntsman.
Mud and Roots.
Ponduro.
Fairy Liquid.
Zoro Returns.
Cheers.
God, I really fancy riding there now.
😀
The Huntsman
Never ridden this. Is it any good?
Its OK.
Bit nadgery in places.
I prefer Thunderstruck though even if it is like riding through a series of small lakes sometimes.
I'm up in Inners for 4 days at the end of April. Agree with the above, angry sheep, green wing, are great. I also like IXS and 39 steps (these maybe be linked) and found those in middle in terms of difficulty. Date night etc, were/are out of my league.
How are the newer off-piste trails at GT?
Skullduggery is gone according to a mate that rode there yesterday, but I believe its card was marked even before the storms. Valley politics apparently...
A MUCH harder trail than Angry Sheep and unfortunately another victim of Arwen.
Tell me about it.
I needed a sit down mid trail and then 5 minutes to recompose/rearrange myself at the bottom...
Does anyone know much about the potential for getting the closed trails back?
The top section of IXS line was my favourite part of the hill. That left at the end of tunnel.
Has anyone been on foot and seen what the damage looks like to the top of IXS?
Is it a case of it will just take time to get it cleared? Or is it ducked and it’s not coming back?
