The SLX rear mech on my few month old steel 456 frame has taken to pulling forward and fouling the rear cassette making gear changing difficult. On closer inspection the tab on the frame which is supposed to prevent this seems worn although this can't be the case as it is still covered in paint. The pip on the mech also seems very small and inadequate to locate against the frame tab. Anybody experienced this problem and what can I do about it?

+1 for B-screw adjustment. The pip that you refer to is the pointed end of the B screw. The opposite end has a philips screw head. Put the bike in the lowest gear and tighten the screw until there is approx 1/4" clearance between the jockey wheel and largest sprocket.
Sounds like you`d better sell it and buy a new one..... 😉
Not quite as drastic as bruneeps but the same colour!
The problem seems to be that the tip of the B screw doesn't have sufficient purchase on the frame tab and is pushing to the edge of the tab so that whever you hit particularly bumpy bits it slides over and the mech swings round.
If its SLX, then surely the B Tension screw doesnt act against the mech hanger, as its a shadow mech.
Or do SLX come in non-shadow versions also?
had another look, your rightbigyinn, it is just a pip on the mech not a screw. The pip does look very small though, could some have broken off?
Its possible that when installing the mech the pip wasn't in the right place and when tightened up its broken off a bit.
