Need a new fork, and need it reasonably quickly... have more or less narrowed it to these four - any advice, anyone?
Been using a set of TALAS R, so I'm used to travel adjust for the long & steep grinds up to my local trails, and am a bit loath to do without it - but tempted by the reputation of the Devilles all the same.
Hear bad things about the 2012 36 TALAS, so I'm not sure about it, equally the travel adjust Lyriks have had problems in the past, but are supposed to be better now. And the Marzocchis - I know they're supposed to be back to form, but I'm still wary of one of their forks with all those adjusters on it - also not sure how the Ti negative spring suits a heavy rider, as it has to be air preloaded.
Any advice, anyone? Going mental here looking at websites and marketing guff.
Strike the 55 - just had a helpful & informative chat with TF Tuned. They're not stocking the TA versions of the 55 on account of them being not very good.
Nice dilemma to have!
IMO suspension performance over and above everything else, with that in mind I just couldn't look past the Deville's.
If you want it quickly, look for something else other than BOS. You may also have issues with Fox delivery times currently.
Why are you looking at some travel adjust forks & other fixed? It's fairly common knowledge the Talas system makes the forks feel worse.
The DPA is totally different to 2-step so don't judge it based on crap 2-step. My Lyrik DPA is much better than the 2-step smoother and more reactive over the smaller bumps. The travel adjust works well enough. The strange thing about the DPA is when you drop the travel it wont drop the exact same amount every time. It is around 30mm but can vary depending on conditions. I guess this means temperature and possibly altitude, its a strange quirk but I cant say that it bothers me.
FWIW the forks were faultless coming down Snowdon last weekend. They sucked up all the big rocks down the Rangers path and never once felt overwhelmed.
Yeah, I thought so too, now I'm riddled with buyer anxiety.
He was less than enthusiastic about BOS though - his experience with them on spares/warranty stuff has been less than positive (TF are the former distributor).
Coil U-turns were his recommendation - have had U-Turns in the past, works well, but the adjustment is very slow, think I'd end up just doing without it.
Really tempted by the Devilles - that worry about spares/warranty, and the lack of travel adjust make me worry though.

Am used to travel adjust, and would ideally like to keep it - the Deville is the only non-TA fork I'm considering, that based on it being a bit special.
double post
If I had the cash I would be all over the Deville and a VIPr combo... but I'm not so I'll keep going with what I have.
I've sold my old forks and got a cycle to work thing going, so it should cost me almost nothing.
What is TALAS?
As a "heavier" rider as well, I love my Coil u-turn Lyriks, I think being heavier often with air forks (and shocks) i found that at the pressures i had to run, the forks lost a lot of there performance. The coil forks seem so much more plush and worth the weight penalty.
What weight are you, scud? And what spring? (and what are you wearing, etc... ๐ )
Sod it. Deville TRCs ordered. You only live once and all that.
I love my Devilles. Way more supple than my old (08) 36 Floats, not quite as stiff but feel more lively.
Quick release is a pain to use though (and its the new one)
Can live with that, as long as the wheel stays on I'm happy.
