I'm looking for some new tyres. The criteria are:
Light
Grippy - on roots, loose and general sliminess
Cheapish
Tubeless compatible
Circa 2.2 width
Moon on a stick? Any ideas?
Grippy on roots!!
Not sure if such a tire exists but I'm going to watch this thread with interest.
My fav combo is Bonti 29-4 front and 29-3 TLR rear.
Wtb Bronson ( iPad wanted that to be "Branson" ) fits the bill. I would go with nobly nic but they ain't cheap.

get some MudX's off the classified and keep riding through the winter, all tyres are compromises, MudX are a good winter one.
I've just put some Spesh Ground Controls on and running tubeless. Grippy, light and fast on a range of stuff around Hawkshead/Ambleside yesterday. They're a 2.1", but a decent volume.
WTB Stout's the only tyre that works well on roots and mud.
They're not light though.
bonty 29-4 and 3 are heavy man! WTB bronson are good as are kenda nevegals.
The correct answer is a nobby nic tubeless ready 2.25 or 2.35 but they're not the cheapest. They are the best by a mile, unless you're after race rubber in which case the 2.25 rocket rons are ace at only 520g per tyre.

wtb dissents do even better, but they're mentally heavy!
I had a feeling Nics might be the answer, but was hoping someone would suggest something as good for half the price
๐ Nics are what I run on my 26er, and I love them
I'll take a look at the Ground Controls. They look good value.
Anyone have any joy with Mountain Kings?
WTB stouts are out of production though. Mine wore out in 2 months too - crazy soft rubber. May not be crazy heavy but the drag on them was unbelievable.
Halo choir master 29er 2.35s are good, bit chunky, but good and cheap about 25 quid
