Wondering about a 220mm rotor for my Guides RE, but I'm thinking a "normal" 1.8mm rotor to avoid rubbing issues
Is it just Hope that do a 220mm disc this size in 1.8mm, or are there other options
Hmm just found a post suggesting the Hope floating rotor rivets can clash with the brake calipers.
I can't answer your specific question, but I ran SRAM centreline 220mm with guide re before, and didn't have any rubbing issues.
I don’t think you’ll necessarily get any more rubbing with a 2mm than you would with a 1.8mm rotor if you true it carefully. You’ll need to reset the pistons before fitting and then advance them against the new rotor to get them positioned properly is all.
One thing to remember is that all rotors need some amount of truing from new. I swapped to the newer sram rotors recently and did find that the thicker rotor means truing takes a bit longer but that’s all.
Fair enough, especially if only hope do a 1.8mm rotor and it won't fit, I may have to live with it. It's just very very annoying having rubbing brake discs, and I like fit and forget options
I would also say I've really liked the newer Sram HS2, they also seem to have a more defined bite point than the (smaller) centerline rotor that they replaced and I'm hoping now I've put in the effort to get them spinning straight they'll be more likely to stay that way.

Are your frame/fork rated for 220mm rotors, mine aren't.
If your calipers will take a thicker disc then I’d go for that. More capacity for heat, less easily bent and miles more miles of use before it becomes too thin and needs replacing.
I think the new SRAM discs are thicker and Hope do thick non-floating rotors (I’ve got them in 220 and 200mm).
Thinner rotors may be cheaper but not over their lifespan.

Galfer 223mm x 2mm. I’m using them front and rear on the Geometron and having no issues, both arrived straight and have done around 150,000ft of descent and are still straight.

I have the Magura 220mm rotor (2mm thick iirc) with SRAM G2 brakes with no issues.
I’ve got the 220mm Centerline and it’s thicker than the 200mm / 180mm version - think 2mm. No problems with setting it up with Code R’s - when it gets really hot it does start rubbing a bit though. Stops again as it cools down. No idea why - the 200mm Centerline didn’t do that with the same brakes.
The new HS2s are good, but I would go Galfer all day. Half the price and every bit as good.
