I'll be at afan tomorrow. Extremely early start (4:30 am!). Will meet up with you Scott and kimbers for practise.
Put my fav summer tyre on this eve- slaughter. Unfortunately it blew off rim and warped v.badly. pissed off as I love that tyre. High roller it is then on spare wheel (couldn't be arsed to change again).
Should get to bed.

What a weekend racing! Fantastic loop, great distance, and a very good mix of trails. Stage 2 and 4 were bloody brilliant! Conditions were spot on. No chain for me on S1 was a bummer 🙁 but rest were just awesome.

Yeah was a great weekend, stages 2& 4 were nice & steep, my legs were done by the end, need to get fitter.

Oh and Neath is a wild night out

We have just got back. Did a bit of riding and a bit of watching and cheering. Great weekend overall.

Gutted I missed it. Still recovering from throat surgery, not really up to racing speed. Should be good by the Southern champs though.

Firstly, I'm a local at Afan and it was great to see so many riders enjoying the area and thanks to Charlie (and the rest of his team) for bringing the event to the area. What with the downhill nationals just down-the-road at Rheola, it really is great to see the benefits that mountain biking can bring to an area. Well done to kimbers, surviving a night out in Neath, also.

I did the Gravity race on Saturday, the weather was perfect and dry trails, although I have never pedaled so much in my life, steep and technical trails are all good and well, but these really did test the fitness levels and were quite hard in that respect.

Well done to Leigh Johnson, proper nice lad but an absolute beast when it comes to racing.

Anyone know if there will be a one off enduro national champs this year? Or is there just the series instead? Ta

Was a great weekend, and I was happy with my result. Only negative was a lack of proper seeding etc, which I think a national level race should have. It definitely cost me a fair bit of time when catching slower riders etc, and I know I wasn't the only one.

moaning over the stages were great, I loved all of them, especially S1 S2 and 4.

Great weekend also! Raced Mash Up and practiced for Sunday's race on Saturday. Stormed 2 Mash Up stages but couldn't get Stage 2 right in my two only attempts.

Felt a little tired on Sunday for the 'big' race and rode all stages clean but my stages times were down on the previous day by a reasonable and surprising amount!

Enjoyed having two races for the price of one but kinda feel like they were both a little compromised in the end...or I didn't prioritise them effectively! Still massive fun though.

Congrats on the podiums @scottfitz and good to see you and @kimbers there 😀

Brilliant weekend at Afan and a great mix of tracks. 2 and 4 were my favourite. The hardtail crew were super friendly and it stayed dry!

Weather’s looking interesting for the WES round at Dyfi this weekend. I predict I’ll be spending half my time sliding down the hill off my bike!

A bit of a call to action, our numbers are a bit down on the QECP Day and Night Enduro from previous years.

Its the longest running Enduro that has a night element in the UK and I would hate to have to drop it next year. Personally its one of my favourite events.

It's practice in the Light and race in the Dark (Light hire available) Its over 4 stages and is part of the QE Cyclefest (Free parking, free camping and loads of demo bikes etc...)

Its on 11th May and in Queen Elizabeth country park in Hampshire.

We also need some more marshals if anyone would like to help out (and get £45).

Here is the link to sign up if interested:

I should be OK to marshal at the QECP Day & Night this year - we are doing Open Morning at DPS on Saturday and Alec and I will be demo'ing bikes on Sunday. I'll check and confirm.

Can anyone enlighten me on how the BNES series points system works? 🙂

How do these events compare to something like a Gorrick XC or Big Dog course? Vaguely interested, but concerned I might be massively out of my depth.

Are full face helmets and pads compulsory?

"BNES Series points and Champions
By working together, the BEMBA organisers have been able to create series points with overall series rankings. At the end of the season, National Enduro Series Champions will be crowned.

To gain points for the overall title, racers must compete in a minimum of four of the first five rounds and the final round. They’re able to drop their worst result from the first five but can’t drop the final round points. Riders can get an overall series ranking from any of the rounds."

And I'm almost certain we are using the BC points like the BDS.

At the grass roots level is simular technically to a Big Dog/gorrick

If you want to give one a go the Southern Enduro in Pippingford is probably one of the easiest rounds.

I don't think there is a race in the UK where FF helmets and Pads are compulsory (there are some in Europe)

thanks Scott I'd got the 4 out 5 rounds bit and final round clear in my head.

this was the bit I was unsure of" And I’m almost certain we are using the BC points like the BDS." but it sounds like that's still TBC at the mo.

I was trying to figure out if a "middle table master" like myself was going to accrue any points

@scottfitz - where will BNES Series points be available to view?  Will it be Roots and Rain or the BEMBA site?

Great question, I think Roots and rain but we are still working on that.

Cheers Scott. If that's the case then I didn't score any points at Afan 😔  but obviously would be good to know where to see them anyway 👍

We're doing the Chopwell Funduro tomorrow through Northern Downhill, nowt massively tiring or technical, just four stages of fun about hour from home. It was ace last year.

Great day at Dyfi today. Storm Hannah left some interesting conditions behind her. Stage 1 was running well and I had a decent run. Stage 2 was cancelled - disappointing as I’d perfected my plummeting tripod technique during practice. Was the right decision - it was almost impossible to stop on the steep chutes in the mud and would have been carnage if raced, despite being fun to ride. Stages 3 and 4 were horrible flagging mud feats and didn’t go well for me, but I was not alone in that.

Dyfi is always good, seeing if I can get a pass to the Final round of the BNES there.

Well done. I suspect it would have been a horrible ‘flagging mud feat’ for me though!😀

Cheeky post...

I’m unable to race PMBA Rd2 this weekend (torn calf muscle 🙁) so have entry available.

If anyone is wanting an entry I’m open to offers. Rider and class can be changed on SI. Best contact is email:

Finally got around to putting up a race report on my blog from the first round of WGES/BNES. If anyone fancies a look, here it is!

Big road trip up to the Lakes tomorrow for BNES R2...who else is racing!? Looking forward to some new (to me anyway) stages and weather looks ok, if a little chilly.

Sorry to hear about the injury @pukeko, sounds painful! 😬

Me and Alex the Badger doing the PMBA Graythwaite tomorrow. Half mega looking forward to riding some ace trails, half in mental turbulence knowing I'm not riding enough tech to be on top form.

Have fun

He's kept that annoying one on the final stage in though by the sounds of it!  😂

How'd everyone do at Graythwaite? I managed to not embarrass myself too much. Low/Mid pack in Masters was all I was hoping for really. Alex kept his banana in one piece all way round.
