Just bought one and pretty sure my existing mech won't fit as the cable on my previous bike pulled from the top and the Transition pulls from the bottom. I am still running 9 speed so is the bottom one the right one? Have read some things online about certain models not fitting so wondered what everyone else was running?
Option A - Top swing, 34.9 bottom pull model

Current Mech - Conventional, 34.9, top pull

The safe option is the top swing version because that will clamp higher up the seat tube and remove all doubt. The question is whether a bottom swing (bottom pull) will work, and sometimes it won't because the clamp won't slide far enough down the seat tube to sit in the correct position relative to the chainring (E.g. if there is some welds/gussets in the way). You can test this with your current mech - work out if it looks like it'll clamp low enough.
A quick google image search suggests that a lot of people are using bottom swing versions on Coverts.
P.S. This is the ideal opportunity to try 1x9. Just sayin'.
Yeah really tempted to try 1x9 as the plan is to go 1x10 in the next couple of months. Fitness is crap at the mo so think I might need the extra gear to get me up the hills.
Thanks for the info, there are a lot of welds around the BB, image below shows the extent
On the other hand that person appears to be running a (Shimano) bottom swing mech. It does look like it's bottomed out on the welds though.
Running Sram everything so will most likely stick with them.
Mine has an SRAM top swing on it
