Hi all,
Anyone use a Gamut P20 chain device.
Want to go 1x9 and these seem ok, reviews are good. Anyone use one or perhaps suggest an alternative ?
Thanks
Happy New Year 😆
I had one and it was spot on.
The straightline slent one looks good as well, no moving parts!.
both seem expecnsive though. I manged to get my P20 for £50 off ebay brand new, which was perfect, I'm not sure I would pay £100 plus for one though.
i've had one running 1x9 for 18 months. Faultless
on a hardtail or FS? with the right chainring you might not need a device
I use a P20 on both my HT and FS. Both guides have worked flawlessly in all conditions. To be honest, most guides of this kind of design will work perfectly as long as they're fitted properly. I tend to think that chainguide choice will generally come down to aesthetics, cost and weight.
To be run on a HT with a shimano 32th single ring which will be ramped as it did form part of a triple M770 crankset.
Could I get away with a SS specific front ring ie not ramped or will that still drop off ?
Not sure I like the reviews on the MRP X1 or the E13 XCX. 🙄
Paul chain keepers look nice but nothing in the UK and I dont fancy paying the postage from the US !
if it's ramped then yea, you'll need a device as it'll naturally try to skip off when in the extreme end of the cassette

You're still likely to lose the chain even if you use a SS ring. Much depends on how rough your trails are, of course, but it still doesn't take much to separate a chain from a SS ring. I tried various guides (bottom only/top only) and set-ups when I first went 1x9 (about five years ago) and always ended up dropping the chain at some point. I don't want my potential riding to be limited by the type of guide I use, so it makes more sense to just go for complete (top and bottom) guides and just forget about it.
I use the e13 guide and no probs with it on a hardtail bouncing around.I have a 36t middleburn and all has been fine.
