[#2772649]

My old MTB ('92 Lava Dome) is currently a rigid SS with original canti brakes.

It's soon to be pressed into duty as the tractor for a child trailer that I've just bought Baby Nord.

Gearing is 33x16 using 8sp sized components (3/32" and 8sp chain). But, I reckon it will be better being geared. Thinking of keeping it cheap, 1x8 seems a sensible approach.

Worth it or pointless? And, if worth it, suggestions for gearing please.

Cheers

OMITN (idling away Friday afternoon dreaming of riding bikes once more)

Sound. I'm putting 7s nexus on my Franken-ute-bike.

Bound to help with the extra weight (and the kid ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) as for gearing, I'd work out how low a top gear you'd want (IYKWIM) and take it from there, you're likely to need lower gears than higer gears, especially once s/he starts eating pies.

I've thought of a hub gear, but reckon cheap 8sp will do the trick for less cost. And a friend, who's done some hub geared experiements, has advised a derailleur set up may be easier for other reasons.

Mini shopping list to be constructed: cassette, chain, der, shifter.

*Might* need something to catch the chain at the front, but I'm not planning on caning it. Baby Nord's only 9 months old..!
