I bought a 170mm RaceFace Aeffect Crankset like this:

Like the SLX currently fitted I bought 170mm to minimise pedal/crank strikes on my Transition Scout but have not fitted it yet as it looks as though the 170mm might be just the same as the 175mm but with the pedal thread drilled further up so crank just as close to the ground as a 175mm. Do you think I could be right and if so are there any decent options apart from RF and Shimano for a <£150 direct mount crankset?
You could be right, no idea without seeing it.
I think Shimano do shorten the crank for shorter effective crank lengths.
Needs a picture I guess!
Certainley the SLX one doesn't look like it could accommodate a hole 5mm further down and retain enough strength.
